What is the meaning of e-business?

The term E-Business (Electronic Business) is back in fashion again. It's been wrongly replaced and confused with E-Commerce (Electronic Commerce) which is only the aspect of selling goods and services over the Internet.

E-Business includes e-commerce and a whole lot more, such as intranets and portal sites containing information for clients. It enables business through IT and the Internet, and is an intrinsic part of business.

Also known as digital business, e-business is not device specific - web sites, tv and mobile web sites and applications are all key elements.

While e-business enables the running of any kind of organisation, a pure e-business or Internet business takes place fully via a web or mobile site online. All products and services sold are digital - Examples are digital downloads and online memberships.
